Homeschool Help
By chosing to homeschool, you have the opportunity to explore the world with your children. Homeschoolers often rely on public libraries to provide free resources like reading and research material. Gering Library is a great resource for homeschool parents.
If you can't find the book you need in our library's collection, we can order it from another library for $4.50 which covers postage.
Gering Public Library offers more than books. Here are some other things you can do at the library:
- Check out a telescope, a knitting kit, a story time backpack or a litter pick-up kit
- Visit our children's area and play with our educational toys- perfect for bad weather days
- Join Chess Club or Teen Advisory Group (TAG)
- Build something at Lego Club or Tinker Tots
- Stop in for Story Time
- Schedule a tour of the library
- Use our community room for meetings
- Make an appointment with a librarian for a research class
Use a database to locate reliable information quickly instead of sifting through questionable results from a search engine.
NebraskAccess is a collection of databases available to Nebraskans through the Nebraska Library Commission.
To use NebraskAccess, you must have a Nebraska Driver's License number or a password (available from your local library).
- Using the words AND, OR and NOT will help narrow your results, for example: "Michelle Williams NOT musician" or "Michelle Williams AND actor" if you are getting the wrong results
- When you find a useful article, search for the same terms used in the article's subject headings or keywords
- Use filters to set dates to narrow results to the time frame you want, for example you may not want old information about Pluto when it was called a planet
- Ask a librarian if you have further questions- we are happy to help
The Library of Congress website will let you access many of their digitized collections, including images as well as documents.
